What does data, analytics and beer have in common?

Data, analytics and beer! These were the top three topics discussed at The Niagara Forum event last week. Not the obvious top discussion points at a trade exhibition, but we are sure the beer-banter was because of our pub themed exhibition stand.

Even our branded beer glass giveaways and bottle openers flew off the bar throughout the exhibition and as a result, our team were soon given the nickname, The Landlords!

But why the pub theme? Creativity is central to the Forest Rock software solutions and services so it was an obvious choice for us to go off-script from the usual exhibition stand design to really stand out from the crowd and attract attention.

As the event was hosted in London, we wanted to create a London pub look and feel where business and pleasure are often combined.

Testament to our success was not just the amount of interest in our services and solutions and the numerous discussions our team had with the visitors but also the organisers themselves who remarked on our winning stand.

Mike Westerfield of Tridium USA, who has been hosting and visiting Tridium trade shows the world over, specifically came over to tell us that this is the best booth he has ever seen – and yes, we can quote him!

However, aside from the PR we put in to the event, we were there to both do business and educate and listen to our customers past, present and future.

The stand design and layout that we adopted demonstrated the solutions available from Forest Rock, from hardware to the N4 Energy manager dashboard and onto the complex analytics platform. A complete solution suitable for all buildings and business types. Our partners, SkyFoundry (https://skyfoundry.com/) made a special visit from the US to join us on the stand and showcase their analytics platform which is an additional bolt on to our N4 Energy Manager software platform and Krypton Jace hardware devices.

On the final day of the exhibition, our very own Sales and Marketing Director, Nick Cooper

delivered a seminar where we presented our work with the Niagara N4 middleware and IoT sensors and the opportunities for business by bringing data to life through our Digital Landscape software platform.

An extremely tech savvy audience was more than interested in discussing their projects past, present and in the pipeline. We also met some new customers and carried out a number of demonstrations of the Digital Landscape software platform. Many visitors were interested in training, and we booked 60% more training sessions than previous Tridium events – maybe it was the bar and the ‘crafty’ giveaways that did it!?!

Attendees and exhibitors were also interested in understanding and gaining a demonstration as to how the Tridium Jace and Niagara software operated in practice together with the latest Forest Rock products and solutions.

Another key interesting fact from our conversations with visitors was a move to more of an interest in MQTT drivers (IT protocol devices as opposed to traditional BMS protocols like BacNet) – this shows a clear movement with systems integration into the IT world and not operating solely in the world of BMS standard protocols. Integrating with a building’s IT infrastructure is the way forward for our partners and Master Systems Integrators like ourselves.

At Forest Rock we have been writing these MQTT drivers for some time and we would be interested in helping our partners and potential new clients with MQTT driver development.

A great three-day event and we would like to say a special thanks to the organisers at Tridium and also #Park Plaza Hotel for their fabulous hospitality and extensive range of food and drinks.
